'Memories In Forms'
Selorm Amekorfia’s latest body of work, developed during his recent residency, marks a compelling evolution in his multidisciplinary practice. Rooted in a bit of abstraction, these new works reflect a deepened engagement with organic forms and the emotional landscapes they evoke. By drawing inspiration from his imagination, objects seen and sometimes unseen, and the rhythm of the human body, Selorm opens a space for freedom, fluidity, and intuitive exploration.
Selorm’s primary mediums are mesh, POP cement, cement, mirror, and acrylic paint, which speak to both physicality and reflection. Each sculptural piece is an encounter, not only with form but also with memory and presence. The tactile qualities of his chosen materials ground the work in structure and weight, while the reflective surfaces of mirrors and the fluid gestures of acrylic paint offer moments of introspection and movement.
At the heart of this body of work is Selorm’s ongoing dialogue with his surroundings, both physical and emotional. His sculptures are not only studies in material and form; they are vessels of personal connection, shaped by his relationship with his environment. The use of construction materials becomes a metaphor for building and sustaining these connections, while the organic shapes suggest the ever-evolving, sometimes unpredictable nature of human bonds.
Amekorfia’s practice resists the constraints of strict categorization. Instead, it thrives in the in-between, between sculpture and painting, abstraction and narrative, the external world and inner experience. These new works invite viewers to slow down, observe, question their imagination, and find their own reflections in the gentle curves and unexpected textures of the forms before them.
Through this exhibition, Selorm Amekorfia offers not only a study of materials and shapes but also a deeply personal meditation on how we inhabit space, both our own and that shared with others.
